Lucy Visitation

I am sad to inform you that, after 10 years of battling cancer, Donnie Lucy's mother recently passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donnie and his his father. Donnie is a sophomore who ran cross-country last year and did not run this year in-order-to spend as much time as possible with his mother.

Visitation is Thursday, September 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Maryville.

Several members of the cross-country team and coaches are planning on attending the visitation after practice. It would be a nice gesture for Donnie's teammates to attend.

Comments:
Looking at the results, it appears a lot of you benefited from having the varstiy boys push the pace. We had a lot of PRs and almost everyone improved from their time at the Tiger Fall Classic. Our top 7 scorers improved by an average of 28 seconds. As we go down the list, that average increases greatly. Everyone will get two more opportunities to run this course. By Regionals, I expect Garrett under 15:20, Chad under 15:50, and at least our top 5 under 16:40. Our 1-5 gap today was 97. This is by far our lowest gap, and a sign of good things to come, but we need to get this gap down to 80 or less to be where we need to be.

Comments: I thought our Fresh/Soph team ran really well. I know that we have Brydon up on varsity, but we have the makings for a solid team. The goal of this team will be to run as a pack and get the pack to improve. We are going to have to win meets by getting our pack as close to the front as possible. We don't have a Garrett in this group, but there is a lot of potential. One runner does not win a meet, but rather a solid group of 5-7! Workouts are going to be getting tougher, but do your best. Challenge yourself each day. You are the future of this program. It is your progression over the next two years that will determine just how good we are. Congrats to all athletes setting course PRs.

Remember, we have the freshman meet on Wednesday at Hazelwood and East Peoria on Saturday. Stay focused and continue to work hard! Your times are improving. I am proud of your efforts this past week.

26) Sarah Smith/21:19.1/-16
29) Megan Keil/21.38.32/
60) Willow Tolly/22:49.79/-53

Comments:
Ladies, I am really impressed with your effort today. You worked extremely hard this week, starting with the 3-1-1 on the course and following up with 1000s and 800s on Thursday. If you look at the comparison list, you will see that we improved on average of 34 seconds per runner. That is a HUGE drop in a week and a half. Obviously your hard work is paying off and the training is working. Congratulations to everyone who set a PR for our course. The team goal of 60 for 1-5 gap just missed as we hit 62. We were close, but under 60 will have to be our magic number. Allie stated that all she wanted to do was run sub 20 on our course. She beat that mark easily. We have two more races on our course, Conference and Regionals. I think all 5 our our varsity athletes can be under 20 by Regionals and Allie, you should be flirting with 19! Keep it up!

Girls Fresh/Soph:
Individual Times:
16) Leah Oglesby: 23:20.76
37) Julia Hannon: 25:10.83
91) Farida Samadzade: 37:29.27
Good job ladies. As we continue to work hard in practice, this group should be able to see the most improvement in meet days. I expect each of you to improve by over a minute the next time we race this course at Conference. Keep up the hard work.

Congratulations and good job on Saturday! Keep working hard and keep believing in yourself, in your training, and in your team!

Peoria Woodruff Invitational Results *Updated w/ Open Times

On the ladies side:

Our Girls finished in 16th place with 419 points.

Individual Results:

33) Allie Sweatt: 18:43
70) Erica Bailey: 19:32
91) Courtney Lybarger: 19:56
98) Lizzie Lynn: 20:07
130) Megan Kiel: 20:50
161) Willow Tolly: 21:37

Comments: I know that we were down two key members of the team with Bri and Sarah testing, and I would have probably put Lizzie A. in as our 7th runner due to the size of the meet. With that said, we still ran fairly well. Allie ran another good race and the success of this team will continue to be the 1-5 gap. On Wednesday, a very good race, we had a 58 1-5 gap. Yesterday our 1-4 gap was 1:24. That is simply unexceptable if this team wants to earn a trip to State. For many, this was the first opportunity to experience a large invitational. The next two weekends will give us the opportunity to focus on one another and close that gap. I am upset that full Regional/Sectional Site information is still not listed, but based on the last few years the following teams should be in our Sectional:
7) O'Fallon: 232
12) Minooka: 350
15) Moline: 385
That places three teams ahead of us in this meet alone. Let's say we plug Bri in and take 30 points off our score, that would place us at 389, but still fourth on this list. If you beat two teams from that list, you have a 90% chance of qualifying for state. That is how close we are as a team. That being said, the goal is not to just make state, but continue to work hard and improve. I really think we could be within 20-25 points of O'Fallon at Conference and Regional if not better. In three weeks we find out where the Lady Tigers really are!!!

Boys:

First off, way to be tough and run the last mile without your shoe Ryker. I know you were upset afterward, but it takes heart to run like that!

Although they did update the individual results, they still were unwilling to plug Ryker into the team scoring. Offically we were 13th out of 37 teams, unofficially we were 10th. That being said, we had a few good performances, but our team effort was slacking. Let's look at the individual results:

1) Garrett Sweatt: 14:20
26) Chad Maxwell: 15:21
76) Brydon Groves-Scott: 16:07
99) Joel Burroughs: 16:22
106) Ryker Frohock: 16:25
176) Andrew Patterson: 17:03
189) Zain Pyarali: 17:15

Okay, so congratulations to Garrett for running the fastest Detweiler time in EHS History and winning the meet. But Garrett, this was not State, and don't be satisfied! Remember your goal! Chad looked great for 1/2 the race but faded. I like the fact that you attacked, but your race was a lot like your practicing. We are really going to focus on workouts and you will be sub 15:00 this year just like we predicted. You are getting closer! Brydon, now is the time to see what you are made of. Other than Garrett, I think the best freshman time anyone ran on Detweiler as a freshman was Devon Dudding at the second Peoria meet in 15:34. We need you to forget about finding teammates for comfort early and go for Devon's time. Now, I am not mad at the rest of you, and Joel you are racing into shape, but here is the reality of things.....
-Chad, you need to be within 45 seconds of Garrett. End of Story!
-We can not continue 1-5 gaps in the 2:05 (125 second) range.
-To be successful, we need six runners under 16:00 on this course.
-Goals to work on: 1-5 gap under 1:40 (100 seconds); improving team depth, and increasing intensity in workouts and meets.

Looking at the team results, you may notice that following are from our Sectional:
7) Minooka: 264
23) Lincoln-Way Central
Now, Minooka is a good team, but a team we should beat. You will need to learn their jerseys because we need to have Garrett beat their 1, Chad beat their two (with your goal of running down their 1), and our five before their 4. Their team places Saturday were: 10-19-43-90-102. Oh, and Brydon, their three man ran 15:39, right where you need to be gunning for.

Open Race:

211/450: Leah Oglesby: 23:18

Boys Open: Times are messed up. They are going to try to figure them out, but for now we have places only. Sorry!

50) Wes Shoenthal: 17:10
83) Mark O'Brien: 17:34
105) Jacob Trueb: 17:46
110) James Mayfield: 17:51
123) Collin Christ: 17:55
131) Jay Lickert: 17:59
136) Chris Miller: 18:02
166) Zach Gabel: 18:16
174) Logan Weshinskey: 18:19
186) Josh Bertels: 18:25
188) Conner Dunaway: 18:26
220) Allen Bilbruck: 18:41
230) Chandler Reed: 18:51
231) Brad Wever: 18:51
246) Kurt Niemeyer: 18:59
250) Alan Bonk: 19:02
264) Dalton Masterson: 19:12
271) John Schoeberle: 19:16
272) Hunter Hessler: 19:17
293) Prakash Kandula: 19:28
301) Joe Shannon: 19:31
310) Brandon Sommer: 19:35
333) Joel MaGee: 19:56
396) Jack Cann: 20:56
399) Nick Ferrari: 20:59
407) Sam McKeehan: 21:05
455) Andy VanZandt: 21:51
471) Aaron Wilkinson: 22:12
492) John Brandenburg: 23:01
494) Jai Kansal: 23:02
516) Connor Jones: 24:12
528) Michael Powell: 25:06
532) Chris McLaughlin: 25:51
545) Matt Compton: 29:46

It is difficult to assess the open race without times, but I think a few of you guys were overwhelmed by having 551 high school runners start at once! Congratualitions to Wes for being our only medal winner in the open race. I think some people raced, while others goofed off. For example, I never want to see an Edwardsville runner with a 30 meter lead at the first turn again. Period! End of story. We are really going to need some of our older runners to step it up. We are struggling with overall depth and need some of you to attack like you want a varsity spot, not just be complacent running in JV/Open races. Continue to challenge yourself daily and let's see what you are made of! I will try to analyze things more when I get updated times. Sorry for the scoring/timing error.

Good job and I'll talk with you on Monday.

2011 Tiger Fall Classic

Congratratulations to the Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys, and JV Boys for capturing team titles at the 24th Annual Tiger Fall Classic.

Ladies, way to compete and beat a very good Breese Mater Dei squad. We talked about focusing on the "blue jerseys" and aiming for a 60 second 1-5 gap. We accomplished both, with a 58 second split. What was more impressive was the fact that you accomplished this with Allie running an impressive 20:23, which was about 5 seconds slower than Arriane's best time last year. If you continue to work hard, stay healthy, and keep battling in races like you have the last two meets, YOU WILL qualify as a team. Keep it up.

Guys, you completely dominated on the JV level. Just look at the results and you can see that. We took home more than 1/2 the medals in the race. On the varsity side, we need to continue to improve that 1-5/1-7 gap. Congratulations to Garrett for setting a new course record (which he should break three more times this year) by running 15:43. Also, Chad ran well considering he was in no mans land after the mile. With competition Saturday, I expect you (Chad) to be under 15:20. Joel also had his best race of the year, with even better things to come. Brydon continues to perfrom like a veteran with a strong 6th place finish. Keep it up.

For a complete list of times and team scores, see the top of the Mud Mountain webpage for links.

Congrats!!!

2011 Country Loop Results

This morning members of the EHS Cross-Country team celebrated Labor Day with the annual "Country Loop" course starting and ending at SIUE. This year was another successful year. Several members of the EHS Girls Varsity Team participated in their first "8 Mile Country Loop" and looked strong. Garrett Sweatt destroyed the previous high school record by well over two minutes with a simply amazing time of 56:03. A special thanks to all of the parents and Alumni members that helped us out, including: Keith Dudding, Diane Dudding, Devon Dudding, Scott Shaw, Lindsay Shaw, Mrs. Pyarali, Michael Hines, and Luke Bertels along with current runners Logan Weshinskey, Kurt Niemeyer, and Nicole Doornink who assisted the runners by pacing on bike or providing water while they are recovering from injury. Good job today. I am proud of everyone.

Boy's Results: Granite City Invitational

I just wanted to start off telling you guys I am very proud of the way we competed this week. We have had a very intense three weeks of training to start the school year and have been pounded with four consecutive days approaching 100 degrees. Today we need to throw times out the window and look at effort. Our effort was there today.

Varsity Boys:

Team Scores:
1) Edwardsville: 78
2) O'Fallon: 94
3) McCluer North: 202
4) Mount Vernon: 209
5) Glenwood: 228

Comments: Congratulations on the victory, but remember O'Fallon was missing two guys off their varsity team. We need to run much harder and continue to improve for a chance to hoist a Conference, Regional, and/or Sectional Championship!!! I still think O'Fallon is ahead of us, but we are inching closer.

Individual Results:

1) Garrett Sweatt: 15:15
5) Chad Maxwell: 15:56
21) Brydon Groves-Scott: 16:52
25) Caden Cramsey: 17:04
26) Ryker Frohok: 17:05
35) Austin Abegg: 17:34
36) Joel Burroughs: 17:36

Congratulations to Garrett for winning the meet by 30 seconds. I think we could have pushed more for time, but it was still a good effort considering conditions. A couple of numbers that bother me: 1-5 split of 1:50!!! 1-7 Split of 2:21. I don't care how good Garrett is, that is unacceptable. If we want to make a statement at State this year, the 1-5 gap must close to 1:20. That does not mean Garrett slows down, but the rest of group has to step it up!!! A team effort with a 1-5 gap of greater than 1:20 will not win Conference, Regionals, or Sectionals.

Fresh/Soph:

Team Results:

1) O'Fallon: 44
2) Springfield: ?
3) Edwardsville: 9?
4) Sacred Heart Griffin: 12?
5) Glenwood: 14?

Evidently one of Springfield's runners was left out of scoring. Granite City should have updated results later. I was pleased with our front pack, but need to continue working.

Inviduals Results:
8) Wes Schoenthal: 17:44
13) James Mayfield: 17:48
17) Chris Miller: 18:00
18) Zain Pyarali: 18:06
33) Jacob Trueb: 18:39
29) Jay Lickert: 18:54
65) Allen Bilbruck: 20:25

Freshman and first year runners should be proud of their races. I know that last three weeks have been a rude, but necessary wake-up call to high school running.

Open Race Results:

Brendan Colligan: 17:47
Andrew Patterson: 18:38
Ben Gabel: 18:56
